The Strathspey Steam Railway stops in Nethy Bridge in the Scottish Highlands beside the Cairngorm Mountains. It is a favourite tourist attraction due to its natural beauty and the wide range of outdoor pursuits that such an area can offer. The end of the line may be familiar to you as Broomhill Station, Nethy Bridges local station, is the fictional location for Glen Bogle Station from the TV series Monarch of the Glen. 1 mile from Nethy Bridge is the River Spey in the Central Highlands of Scotland, great for Salmon fishing. The Village is 10 miles from Aviemore, on the scenic routeB970between Boat of Garten and Grantown on Spey. Footpaths and bicycle tracks lead directly from Nethy Bridge, into the forest and on to the Osprey hide at Loch Garten. Some people are drawn by Grampians wildlife, from the magnificent golden eagle of the high topsdown through the lochs and rivers, to the woodlands, home of the Scottish crossbill, crested tit and pine marten. You will also find the endangered capercaille, and of course, the osprey. Not too far beyond Strathspey lie the wild craggy coastal areas of the the west, favourite haunt of the otter, and the gentler coastline of the North east Highlands, with dolphin just a stones throw from the beach. The National Park runs from Grantown on Spey to the heads of the Angus Glens, from Ballater to Dalwhinnie and Drumochter including much of the Laggan area in the southwest and a large area of the Glen Livet estate and the Strathdon Glen Buchat area. The National Park area is home to a quarter of Scotlands native woodland with the biggest continuous stretches of near natural vegetation in Britain. It is a refuge for a host of rare plants and creatures, including 25of the U.Ks threatened species.
