Home >Glasgow Guide > In 1897 work started on a new building to house the School of Art on Renfrew Street, Glasgow . The building was designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh , former pupil of the Glasgow School of Art. The first half of the building was completed in 1899 and the second in 1909 . The building has an eclectic unity with influences from Scottish baronial architecturevolumetric masses of heavy masonry , art nouveau motifsfloral and geometric motifs in the iron work, tiles, detailsand modern materials and techniqueslarge, industrial, braced windows .the School caters for some 1500 students and is funded as a central institution by the Scottish Executive, through the Scottish Higher Education Funding CouncilSHEFC building has manyMackintosh has become famous very prominent position in the city. |
